The Trip!
Okay, finally got out of town about 10 pm Friday. The kids were left with sitters, so it was Greg, my cousin Pat and I that went on the roadtrip. Drove through KC, and Joplin. By this time, it was close to 4 am, and Greg was pretty beat, so I took over driving.
Mind you, I was already tired, so things got a bit ... weird. *g* Jumped off at the Big Cabin exit in Oklahoma and headed down US 69. *g* Needless to say, my mind headed straight to the gutter, and didn't leave for a while. *g* It was about...6 am when I hit this one part of Oklahoma. On the left (east) side of the road, was a large cement wall that I couldn't see over. On the right (west) was water. LOTS of water. My comment?
"Fucking shit! When did we hit the ocean?" That woke Greg up. *g* He looked around, (about this time, we caught a glimpse of what was on the east side, nuttin' but water) then looked at me. His exact words, "You are never driving again." *snickers*
It went on like this for about thirty minutes, with us joking around that the lake was following us, and how I *must* have taken a wrong turn somewhere, even though I was following the Daemon Sprites directions to a T. (Of course, that isn't true. The damn Sprites spent the whole time singing the Smurf song and driving me nuts.)
Pretty soon, we left the lake behind eventually ended up in Texas. I drove all the way to Dallas before Greg took back over.
Let me just say, Dallas is Gorgeous. The buildings are awesome, the freeway system is pretty (okay, so I'm an architectural buff, I like pretty streets and buildings.), and it was just neat.
Made our way to Porter, which is about 20 minutes north of Houstan. Picked up Amanda and headed for Houstan. I'm sorry Texas people, I don't like Houstan. It's annoying and crowded.
Anyway, from there we headed to Galveston. Spent an hour and a half on the damn bridge. There were people selling t-shirts advertising 'Beach Party 2002'.
After finally getting off the damn bridge, we headed for the Ferry and went across to Point Bolivar. Headed down to Bolivar Beach and played in the water for a couple of hours. Then headed back over to Galveston to hit a couple of places along the seawall. That's when we found out what they meant by "Beach Party Weekend".
Needless to say, after we got there, Kym spent the entire time drooling over the cars and cycles, (okay, and a few of the guys and girls. At least I didn't walk into a pole like Pat did.) before leaving. And the house, love the houses in Galveston. They're big and pretty and cool and old and wow.
After that, we headed back to Amanda's and dropped her off. We got there about 2am, so we took a small nap, and headed for Tulsa at about 5am.
On our way back through Oklahoma, we picked up a map, and found out the name of the lake that followed us for so long. Lake Eufala. *snickers* Anyway, I've decided that Oklahoma *could* be a cool place to live, if it wasn't for the damn tornados.
Got into Tulsa about 11:30, hung out at for a bit. Picked up Lady D from the bus station at 1, and headed to Nowata to see Webster. Hung around there until 4, and then headed home. People, we weren't home even an hour, before she started bitching about stuff. I'm ignoring her.
A very relaxing trip, I'm not the least bit stressed. Of course, that will change over the next week. *g*
