Left carotid artery is 100% blocked. Right carotid artery is 50-70% blocked. Fortunately, he's part of the 30% of people who have what the doctor called 'full plumbing', in that all the veins and stuff meet up in the brain, so the right side is able to compensate for the loss of the left side.
He's on meds, has to quit smoking NOW, and has another check up in 6 months. If it's worse, or things happen between now and then, they'll discuss an angioplasty. If it's better, they'll continue as is.
So, going home sometime today, even though he wanted the surgery to clear out the right side now.
