It's a playground, really. All of life, just a series of different playgrounds and parks, some are all work, others are all play, a few are a mix of both. With the little cliques and groups and friendships that move around, each claiming their spot. The ones giggling around the swings, playing tag on the forts, or kickball in the field.

Only the playground of life moves. It fluctuates, constantly in a state of change. The toys come and go, the location moves frequently. And some, they struggle to keep up with the change. Not because they're slow or indifferent, but because they're struggling. They're stretched thin, running back and forth between the work and play, struggling to keep from losing everything, fighting to survive and not end up in the gutter somewhere along the way.

Sometimes, the struggle takes up so much that they don't get to play anymore, and they get behind. They lose track of what toys are being played with, what games are cool, what playground everyone is hanging out at, and which group is still talking to that group. They occasionally find some time to devote to the play, only to find that no one is playing with the old toys anymore, they've all found a new game to play, and unfortunately, all the new toys are taken. They try anyway, to find some niche in the new game, to still belong, and by the time they do, the game is over and the toys, which are no longer fun for everyone else, are abandoned, and a new playground is found.

And so they find themselves one step behind again, lagging, struggling to keep up. The frustration creeps in and soon the play becomes just as much work as the real work and they begin to wonder why they bother when the play is no longer fun. Why try when no one else wants to join in on the old games anymore and the new games are full?

Why bother when fighting to keep up is as tiring and frustrating as fighting to survive?
