It's taken almost ten years, but Omaha and Council Bluffs have finally gotten their acts together and started the pedestrian bridge that will cross the river and connect the two cities for those without vehicles.

Here's a projected look of what it will look like at night.

Now, WHY couldn't they have started this so I could use it now? It won't be done until after we move.


In other news, I got a 92% on my sociology midterm. (That's a low A for the people outside the US.)

Further Proof That Deer Are Evil

My cousin Pat was in a very serious car accident Sunday morning. He, his girlfriend Megan, and his two friends John and Tyler were on their way back into town from Pat's old house at about 3am Sunday morning. They were in Tyler's 80-something Camaro when a deer jumped out in front of them. They missed the deer, but the Camaro flipped a few times.

Pat was driving, Megan was in the passenger seat, they were both strapped in. Tyler and John were in the backseat, no seat belts. Pat says he remembered swerving and the next thing he remembers was undoing his seatbelt and then hitting the roof of the car, it had landed on its top. He got Megan out and then looked in the back, Tyler and John were gone.

They had gone out the back window. John ended up being tossed back across the road and either landed on the road or hit the bluff and then landed on the road. Pat found him there. Either way, the little shit has refused medical treatment and they're concerned he's got a bleed in the brain. His mom is waking him up every 15 minutes and says if she has problems getting him up even once, he's going to the ER.

Tyler was life flighted to the hospital. Pat said he was yelling and yelling for Tyler because they couldn't find him, and he finally started moaning and they found him in a ditch a long way from the car. They were very worried on Sunday that he had broken his neck, but after putting a drain in, they're talking about him going home tomorrow. The kid gets out of bootcamp, is looking at possibly being shipped overseas, and it's a FUCKING DEER that puts him in the hospital. Even though he was already trying to find a way out of duty because his mom had a stroke while he was in boot and is now housebound. He's an only child and I don't think there's a lot of family nearby.

Apparently, my aunt went into his hospital room and he looked at her and goes 'Hey Mom, I got my first ride in a helicopter'. She said if he already didn't have a head injury, she would have smacked him. Thankfully, Megan and Pat only had scrapes and bruises and from the looks of the car, there's a very good chance that John and Tyler would have a lot worse injuries or dead if they had been buckled in.

So. Fun times. AND DEER ARE EVIL.
