Christmas can never be easy for this family.
Last year, it was Braylon. The years before were a myriad of things, from injuries to divorces to child custody things.
This year, it was a fire.
I've made mention of my uncle and the minions in more than one post in my journal. Greg and his boys, Kain, Blade and Seph. Last night, there was an electrical fire at their house. Greg said the smoke detector went off last night about 7pm, waking him up (he works midshift). He went into the kitchen and there was a popping noise in the wall behind the fridge. He opened the bathroom door to get to the fuse box, thinking that was it, and the bathroom ceiling was in flames.
Seph and Blade were with their mom this week, Kain lives with her full time. The only other people in the house were Greg's roommate Judy and her three kids. Everyone got out safely, but everything is gone. All of the boys' clothes and toys, their tv and games. All of Greg's clothes and stuff. Greg's computer, along with the two that belonged to Judy and her husband Rick. All of Rick and Judy's stuff, along with their kids'. Greg and the boys will be staying with my grandmother, he doesn't know about Rick and Judy yet. They may end up going back to Missouri where her family is.
Luckily GranJo had insurance on the place, so the mortgage will be taken care of. Clothes and that can be replaced, the computers and tvs and movies and stuff will take a bit longer. I don't know when Greg is going to be able to replace his gun and his bow (he's an avid hunter, so much that he doesn't have to buy much meat in the winter).
I have a favor to ask people. I'm not asking for money or stuff, but some of the things the boys lost can't be replaced, at least not by me. What I'm looking for is two blankets. I bought one for Seph and one for Blade a few years ago. Both were made of two fleece panels, 2ft by 3ft (2ft by 6ft total). Seph's was emporer penguins on an artic background, Blade's was of a baby seal on an artic background. The boys both slept with these, Seph took his everywhere. If you see the fabric, snag it for me and I'll pay you back?
They also lost the stuffed animals that went with their blankets (I had just replaced Seph's penguin in March), I'll probably be able to replace those when the aquarium gift shop opens in March again. GranJo will most likely replace their movies and stuff for Christmas.
Just yeah, any help with the fleece will be appreciated.

Date: 2006-12-04 09:46 pm (UTC)I'm almost positive the JoAnn ETC I worked at had an emperor penguin panel fleece. Maybe even the seal in panel. I know we should have the penguins in a standard print and possibly the penguins in a pre-made blanket form.
I'll definitely check next time I go, because I need to go look for a certain fabric this week. :/
